Cannabis Companies Ask for Ease of F.D.A. Rules on CBD Products

As cannabis starts to be decriminalized across the country, cannabis companies seek easing of regulation on CBD.

While F.D.A. hearings are rarely a raucous affair, more than 400 applicants from the U.S. Hemp Roundtable last month fought for a chance to testify for and against the impact of CBD policy.

Here at, we know that CBD differs from its sister THC because it isn’t psychoactive, meaning it doesn’t get you high. The medicinal benefits of CBD is a tale as old as time, but not everyone is happy to see CBD popping up on shelves across America. Both stemming from the cannabis plant, CBD is known for easing anxiety and stress and is even considered to be a cancer cure by some in the holistic medicine sphere.

Only 120 companies and collectives were chosen, by lottery, to testify before the F.D.A., each give five minutes to quickly make an argument that they hoped would help sway the Administration’s stance on CBD deregulation.

“I have been privileged, awed and at times brought to tears by the positive changes CBD has brought to my customers’ lives” said Susan Cromer, of LilyHemp (Infused Herbal Goodness), the New York Times reports.

We regularly get emotional too when we read people’s CBD testimonials here at GRASSDOOR. That’s why we’ve added top shelf CBD products so that you can get fast, safe and quality cannabis delivery in CA that now features CBD on top of our extensive menu of flower, vape carts and concentrates.

Pro-CBD congress adds pressure

Under pressure from Congress to make cannabis-derived products easier to sell, the F.D.A. has had to shelve its scepticism of the ever-increasing cannabis industry. CBD does not fall under the medical marijuana legislation, now approved in many states which permits doctors to prescribe cannabis products for nausea, pain and other symptoms.

While in California, we can delivery marijuana in LA and beyond without medical approval, CBD, which is growing sharply in popularity as consumers reject the pharmaceutical industry for aches and pains and see natural alternatives, many states have confusing if not any legal parameters for the sale of CBD which does not get consumers high. In a growing industry that is predicted, on the lower end, to reach a minimum of $16 billion in CBD sales in the U.S. by 2050, there is surprisingly little clarity on federal CBD sales regulation.

How CBD is sold

Up for debate is the methods CBD is sold. While on GRASSDOOR we stock Select CBD Vape products ready for weed delivery in CA, CBD can be sold in soft drinks, edible products, pet products, bath salts, salves, creams, candles and many more inventive forms.

At the F.D.A. hearing, many academic professionals spoke about the benefits of CBD, but cited a need for larger research to be able to prove this on a larger scale. While CBD is a known plant medicine by users, the scientific community is relatively new to considering CBD a genuine healing product.

Some anti-CBD voices raised the issue of doing CBD correctly and the need for more stringent regulation on how CBD potency is measured and marketed. Here at GRASSDOOR, we added Select CBD Vape products to our menu because we love how each draw is consistent, allowing you to dose your CBD intake so that each puff is the same size. By using state-of-the-art wick technology, Select vape products burn the CBD oil within the cartridge consistently.

Slowing down a runaway train?

Thankfully, in 2018 the farm bill removed hemp and cannabis–derivatives such as CBD from the F.D.A. list of controlled substances, provided that 0.3 percent THC exists within them. The World Health Organisation weighed in that CBD has no addictive effects and a strong safety profile.

“Congress had the expectation that CBD from hemp would be able to be put in the food supply when they passed the farm bill,” Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former F.D.A. Commissioner said, “but it very explicitly preserved F.D.A.’s authority, so the F.D.A. has to create a framework for it to be contemplated as a component in food.”

Monitoring marijuana is a tough job that is spread over multiple agencies. The Drug Enforcement Administration permits cannabis processing and growing for medical purposes, while the Department of Agriculture is working on regulating hemp production, another cannabis by-product. Hemp policy can also be set on state-by-state terms.

Marc Scheineson of Alston & Bird in Washington, D.C. law firm who represented his CBD client at the hearing said “this is a new gold rush. The horse is so far out of the corral here that it will be interesting to see what F.D.A. decides to do — or can do at this point.”
